Jeevanshala’s Achievements
Jeevanshalas have a broad vision with vaned goals and specific objectives. The primary focus is to impart Primary Education and open the doors to integration with mainstream society. Since literacy was almost completely absent, the prime task was to bring the children to school and motivate the parents to send them to school- especially the girls.
Today, approximately more than 5000 children have received primary education thanks to the existence of the Jeevanshalas and a large number have continued with higher education. Hundreds have completed their SSC and some have graduated The awareness level in the villages has improved tremendously and a number of our students are in jobs that contribute to their families and communities.
We see a change in the lives of our students and also in their outlook on life. They continue to participate in NNNA activities and even organize programs in the villages independently. They participate in legal and human rights struggles and spread the message of sustainable and fair development. Some have become teachers, others are full time activists in the fields of health, education, PDS, fisheries etc.
More than 18 of our students have excelled in sports over the years and have been selected to join the Kreeda Prabodhini by the Government of Maharashtra whilst one is training as an athlete in Badwani, Madhya Pradesh. One of our students has received 52 Gold medals and his brother, has 25 gold medals. Another is the Goalkeeper in the Maharashtra Hockey Team.
39 students of class 4 of our Maharashtra based Jeevanshalas registered for the scholarship exams conducted by the government. One student was absent. Out of 38 students, we are happy to report that 19 students passed with distinction, 5 got a First Class, 11 got a Second Class 1 student just passed and 2 failed.
The Jeevanshalas actually become the center of village activities like town halls for the local community.
We do believe that the youth cadre built in these schools will go a long way in shaping the future of the nation via their perspectives and work in the fields of Environment, Education, Development, Human Rights etc. through struggle and reconstruction.
